The nature reserve of Hirschau and Obere Isarau encompasses the Isar wetlands north of the Isarring, up to the city limits, and is roughly 736 hectares in size.The Hirschau and Obere Isarau nature reserve consists of a diverse mix of fields, forests, wetlands and water meadows along the Isar. It is home to a rich variety of animals and plants, including rare species such as: huchen, bullhead, common teal, green woodpeckers, kingfishers, Idas blue and lesser purple emperor butterflies, adders, smooth snakes, creeping baby’s breath, adder’s tongue and many different orchids.
