Bathing in the Isar is permitted at the following locations within the city of Munich:
- from the southern city boundary to just before the Marienklausensteg
- from shortly after the Marienklausensteg to shortly after the Thalkirchner Brücke
- from shortly after the weir at the Flauchersteg to the Braunauer Eisenbahnbrücke
- from the Braunauer Eisenbahnbrücke to just before the Wittelsbacher Brücke on the eastern side of the river (on the right in the flow direction)
- from the middle point between the Wittelsbacher Brücke and the Reichenbachbrücke to the Reichenbachbrücke on the eastern side of the river (on the right in the flow direction)
- from 200 meters after the Max-Joseph-Brücke to 200 meters before the Oberföhringer Wehr on the eastern side of the river (on the right bank in the flow direction)
- In the Isarkanal, you can swim between the bridge to the Marienklause and the Thalkirchner Brücke.

Bathing is generally prohibited in the direct vicinity of dams and power plants, spillways, sluices, vortices, storm drain junctions and other dangerous areas.
